CONTINUE ROOTED
Keep moving your church towards learning and living foundational rhythms of following Christ.
You've completed a Rooted season—or maybe multiple or many—and that means your church has planted the rhythms of discipleship in your church. Where do you go from here?
A discipleship culture takes commitment to sustain and is undergirded by four discipleship principles and implementing a discipleship plan.
Depending on where your church is, choose from one of two options below.

FOUR DISCIPLESHIP PRINCIPLES
A healthy church discipleship strategy requires more than curriculum or a program. Healthy discipleship built on four principles, and Rooted is designed around all four of them.

INTENTIONAL
Principle 1
Without being intentional, small groups default to whatever's comfortable—at worst, becoming a social or book club. Rooted sets the baseline: discipleship that's rhythmic and experiential. That's the foundation.

SPECIFIC
Principle 2
Context matters. Churches and groups are at different points in their spiritual formation, so no one-size-fits-all plan exists. Discipleship meets people where they are and moves them to the next step.

EXPERIENTIAL
Principle 3
Discipleship is meant to be lived. It is a matter of the head, the heart, and the hands. A solid discipleship strategy creates intentional opportunities to live out what's learned, again and again.

SUSTAINABLE
Principle 4
Every time a church overhauls its discipleship approach, people fall through the cracks. Discipleship is long-term obedience in the same direction. A stable strategy lets systems and best practices pass from one leader to the next.
DISCIPLESHIP PLANS
Continue the growth and momentum experienced in Rooted.
Each plan below is a collection of resources built around a different discipleship goal. Most churches use multiple plans over time—and many run more than one simultaneously depending on the needs of different groups.

Foundation Plan
The 10-week Rooted experience is designed to be offered in your church two to three times per year. Rooted serves as the starting point and shared foundation for every discipleship strategy. The best way to continually sow the seeds of an Acts 2 discipleship culture.

Rooted Rhythms Plan
The Rooted Rhythms Series is designed to help individuals learn and experience the 7 Rhythms of a Disciple through five-week studies on each Rooted Rhythm. Start with the rhythm that is best for your groups and design a plan to dive into each of the rhythms over time.

Theology Plan
The Deep Dive Series is designed to help individuals learn and live out foundational theological concepts. Groups will go deeper with God as they explore who He is, how they are made in His image, and what it looks like to partner with Him as they put their faith into action.

Hybrid Plan
Build your own plan by combining resources across all plans based on specific needs in your church. Your groups can journey through a combination of studies that address theological subjects, rhythms of discipleship, and relevant topics.

FAQs
Following are the most commonly asked questions from churches that desire to continue building a discipleship culture. Click the question to see the answer.
Once groups finish Rooted, what is the best next step to ensure groups continue meeting?
We believe the most important session for a group is the one that immediately follows the 10 weeks of Rooted. Group participants have grown accustomed to daily devotions, experiential discipleship, and a high bar of commitment. A proven strategy is to offer at least one daily devotion-based study each session throughout the year — fall, winter, and spring/summer — for groups that have completed Rooted. Connect with your Rooted Network coach to develop your church's ongoing discipleship strategy and plan.
What should groups study after Rooted to continue growing as disciples?
After 10 weeks of transparency, depth, rich conversation, and experiential growth, we strongly encourage continuing those elements. Many churches return to sermon based small groups, but unpacking weekend messages can feel like a letdown for many groups that have completed Rooted. One way to continue the depth and richness experienced in Rooted is through daily devotion-based experiential studies from Rooted Network. Many Rooted Network churches prescribe a 1 to 2 year discipleship plan for groups that have completed Rooted that continues their journey of rhythmic and experiential discipleship. Connect with your Rooted Network coach to build a contextualized discipleship plan.
How do churches create a discipleship plan or pathway for continued spiritual formation through groups?
For more than a decade, Rooted Network has worked with thousands of churches to build long-term, sustainable discipleship strategies. Because no single plan fits every church, working through a Rooted Network discipleship strategy template with your Rooted Network coach will yield the most contextualized strategy and plan for your church.
Should individuals who have not yet journeyed through the Rooted experience be able to join existing small groups?
A best practice seen across the Rooted Network is to have ungrouped people join new groups forming through Rooted. Grouping new or ungrouped individuals in a new small group is the best way to ensure disconnected people become connected. Some Rooted Network churches allow disconnected people to join an existing group by invitation only, while encouraging them to join a Rooted group the next time a session kicks off. Connect with your Rooted Network coach to determine the best approach for your context.
