RESOURCES TO LAUNCH ROOTED
FOUR DISCIPLESHIP PRINCIPLES
A healthy church discipleship strategy requires more than curriculum or a program. Healthy discipleship built on four principles, and Rooted is designed around all of them.

INTENTIONAL
Principle 1
Without being intentional, small groups default to whatever's comfortable—at worst, becoming a social or book club. Rooted sets the baseline: discipleship that's rhythmic and experiential. That's the foundation.

SPECIFIC
Principle 2
Context matters. Churches and groups are at different points in their spiritual formation, so no one-size-fits-all plan exists. Discipleship meets people where they are and moves them to the next step.

EXPERIENTIAL
Principle 3
Discipleship is meant to be lived. It is a matter of the head, the heart, and the hands. A solid discipleship strategy creates intentional opportunities to live out what's learned, again and again.

SUSTAINABLE
Principle 4
Every time a church overhauls its discipleship approach, people fall through the cracks. Discipleship is long-term obedience in the same direction. A stable strategy lets systems and best practices pass from one leader to the next.
FAQs
Following are the most commonly asked questions from churches launching the Rooted experience. Click the question to see the answer.
What is the best process to prepare for a church-wide launch?
There are three key steps to preparing for and launching Rooted with excellence.
1. Facilitate a Pilot session. Begin by facilitating Rooted with your staff and key leaders. We recommend purchasing the Rooted Pilot Kit, which includes a step-by-step Rooted Implementation Guide to walk you through the process.
2. Attend a Rooted Launch training event. After the Pilot session, key staff attend a training event equipping your team with all the practical steps and strategic framework needed to launch church-wide.
3. Connect with a Rooted Network coach. Throughout each step, a Rooted Network coach is available at no cost to guide you and answer questions specific to your church context.
How should Rooted be promoted to our congregation?
We suggest a 4 to 6 week promotional schedule that includes internal invitations, a lobby presence, in-service stories of life change, and calls to action for both connected and disconnected attenders. We have resources available to help with graphics, a teaching series to promote Rooted before it begins, and examples of marketing messages. Connect with your Rooted Network coach to contextualize your plan.
How many Rooted group facilitators are needed?
It is best practice that anyone who facilitates Rooted has personally experienced Rooted as a group participant prior to leading and is also able to commit to the full 10 weeks. Managing the demand for Rooted against the available number of facilitators is an important consideration. Groups typically range from 8 to 12 people. It is okay to cap registration in light of offering Rooted 2 to 3 times a year. Creating some demand is an important aspect of building momentum. Connect with your Rooted Network coach to discuss leadership pipeline development.
How should Rooted group facilitators be trained?
Leadership development is one of the key benefits of Rooted. We strongly encourage a 1 to 2 hour training session 1 to 2 weeks before the Rooted session begins and then a weekly facilitator meeting during the 10 weeks. Churches across the Rooted Network host weekly facilitator meetings in several different expressions. Connect with your Rooted Network coach to determine the best approach for your capacity and context.
Should existing small groups that meet off campus come back to the church for the Rooted experience?
We believe a change of scenery leads to a change of perspective. When an existing group leaves their home for 10 weeks to go through Rooted alongside new groups at the church, it can create a powerful rejuvenation effect. In addition, it also makes logistics easier for the 3 large-group gatherings. We know this isn't always possible, so there are ways to equip existing groups to journey through Rooted in their homes. Speak with your Rooted Network coach to determine what best fits your situation.
What Rooted Celebration format is best for our context and goals?
There are three primary options churches plan around for the Rooted Celebration:
- Sunday Celebration: Host a celebration breakfast and incorporate testimonies, baptisms, and a celebration of life change into the Sunday service — putting life change on display for the whole church.
- 11th Week Celebration: Host the celebration as an 11th week on the same day the groups have been meeting.
- Friday or Saturday Night Celebration: Host the celebration on a Friday or Saturday night and invite the whole church, along with friends and family of the graduates.
