EXPLORE ROOTED
Rooted is a church-wide 10-week small-group experience that helps your church build an Acts 2 discipleship culture—connecting people with God, the church, and their purpose.
Rooted is not meant to be a one-time Bible study curriculum that churches try and then leave behind.
The 10-week Rooted experience establishes rhythms—patterns of life with God, with one another, with people in our communities—that continue long after the season ends.
These rhythms were the practices of the early church, and today they are the core of Rooted.
Continue reading to explore the 7 Rhythms of Discipleship and the 4 discipleship principles that will shape your Acts 2 discipleship culture.
7 RHYTHMS OF DISCIPLESHIP
Every Rooted journey is anchored in seven foundational rhythms—the everyday practices that shape how we follow and reflect Christ.
RESOURCES TO EXPLORE ROOTED
FOUR DISCIPLESHIP PRINCIPLES
A healthy church discipleship strategy requires more than curriculum or a program. Healthy discipleship in the church is built on four principles, and the Rooted experience is designed around all of them.

INTENTIONAL
Principle 1
Without being intentional, small groups default to whatever's comfortable—at worst, becoming a social or book club. Rooted sets the baseline: discipleship that's rhythmic and experiential. That's the foundation.

SPECIFIC
Principle 2
Context matters. Churches and groups are at different points in their spiritual formation, so no one-size-fits-all plan exists. Discipleship meets people where they are and moves them to the next step.

EXPERIENTIAL
Principle 3
Discipleship is meant to be lived. It is a matter of the head, the heart, and the hands. A solid discipleship strategy creates intentional opportunities to live out what's learned, again and again.

SUSTAINABLE
Principle 4
Every time a church overhauls its discipleship approach, people fall through the cracks. Discipleship is long-term obedience in the same direction. A stable strategy lets systems and best practices pass from one leader to the next.
FAQs
Following are the most commonly asked questions from churches exploring the Rooted experience. Click the question to see the answer.
What exactly is Rooted?
Rooted is a church-wide 10-week discipleship experience that connects people with God, the church, and their purpose. It is not a curriculum to complete, but a culture to cultivate over time. Each group will journey together through the 7 Rhythms of Discipleship found in Acts 2.
What is the structure of Rooted?
Rooted is designed for both existing groups and as a pathway to form new groups, which typically range in size from 8 to 12 people. Rooted is made up of four components:
- Daily Devotion: Each week, group participants unpack five daily devotions around a specific spiritual rhythm.
- Group Conversation: Participants gather weekly to share their reflections on encountering God through Scripture.
- Experiences: As a group or individually, participants practice and experience the spiritual rhythms firsthand.
- Gatherings: Three large gatherings throughout the 10 weeks unite all groups around the Rooted experience.
What are the results and outcomes of the Rooted experience?
Rooted Network churches consistently experience a stable rhythm of facilitating Rooted 2 to 3 times per year. A high percentage of groups continue to meet after the 10 weeks, with many Rooted graduates attending more regularly, consistently serving within the church and out in the community, and increasing in financial generosity — all spiritual rhythms covered in Rooted.
Piloting and implementing Rooted first with staff and key leaders is essential to bringing unity around core language and strategy. Rooted Network churches discover that discipleship becomes part of everyone's job description, not just a specific department or team.
Will Rooted work in any church context?
The 10-week Rooted experience is a proven and effective discipleship starting point — an engine to consistently launch high-commitment small groups and develop high-capacity small group leaders. With thousands of churches utilizing Rooted, it has proven effective across all church contexts.
What is the cost? Is it required to be part of a network with dues or subscriptions?
Though we are a network, there are no dues or subscriptions. All connection and coaching with Rooted Network is at no cost and seeks to support each church in their own unique context. There is a cost for the resources. Each group member has their own daily devotion workbook, and facilitators also have their own guide. Many churches choose to offer the 10-week Rooted experience for $25–$50 per adult, which covers the workbooks and can help subsidize childcare and the expenses related to the gatherings.
What are the next steps to begin implementing Rooted?
The best way to start is to meet with a Rooted Network coach — at no cost and with no pressure — and plan out a Pilot session, which is for staff, leaders, elders, and key stakeholders. Purchasing a Rooted Pilot Kit is essential, along with any additional resources depending on the size of your Pilot session. Your Rooted Network coach will journey with you through the pilot to answer questions, help navigate any complexity, and prepare you for launching church-wide.
If you're not quite ready for a pilot, attend an online training event and then connect one-on-one with a Rooted Network coach.
